Why do I get a "Fatal Error: Access Violation" when adding a keyfile in the Convert Programming Files utility?

Environment

    Quartus® II Subscription Edition
BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description Due to a problem in the Quartus II software version 13.0 SP1 and earlier, you may see a Fatal Error when using the Convert Programming Files (quartus_cpf) utility if you add one key file (.key) to multiple SRAM Object Files (.sof) with your project open or if your .key is not present in your  project directory.
Resolution

To work around this problem, either close your project or ensure that the .key is present in your Quartus II project directory.

The Quartus II software is scheduled to be updated in a future version so that your .key may be present outside of your project directory.
