Why does the Stratix® V device Transceiver Toolkit display a "Couldn't grab settings for channel" message when using Quartus® II software versions 14.1 and 14.1.1?

The Transceiver Toolkit Console message pane may report the message: "Couldn't grab settings for channel" when using Quartus II software versions 14.1 and 14.1.1.

You may also see after regenerating a Transceiver Toolkit Qsys design in Quartus II software versions 14.1 and 14.1.1 that the Transceiver Toolkit Console does not pre-populate the Receiver Channels, Transmitter Channels, and Transceiver Links tabs.

To work around this problem, you can use one of the sequences below:

1. Revert your Transceiver Toolkit Qsys design to Quartus II software version 14.0
2. Recompile the project in Quartus II software version 14.0, 14.1, or 14.1.1
3. Open the Transceiver Toolkit GUI from Quartus II software versions 14.1 or 14.1.1

Or

1. Download and apply the following patch to Quartus II software version 14.1.1
2. Regenerate your Qsys design and recompile your project.

 Note: The Data Rate and PLL refclk frequency fields will not be reported in the Transceiver Toolkit Console, but the design will work

  • Download the version 14.1.1 patch 1.05 for Linux (.run)
  • Download the Readme for the Quartus II software version 14.1.1 patch 1.05 (.txt)

This problem is fixed in Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 15.1.
