Error: (vsim-3033) /io_buf.v(87): Instantiation of 'altiobuf_bidir' failed. The design unit was not found.

Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® II software version 14.0 and earlier, you may see this error when you try to simulate a design for io_buf with the additional options: differential mode, dynamic termination control, series and parallel termination control.

Resolution

To work around this problem,
1) Remove the dynamic termination control option in the IP
2) Replace the generated io_buf.v  in the Files tab with io_buf.v, and compile the design again.
