How do I use a password to enable a new device in the Quartus™ II software?

Environment

Description You may need a password to enable full programming support for some APEX™ devices in the Quartus II software. Below are the steps to add the password:
  1. Close all versions of the Quartus II software.
  2. Open the <Quartus II directory>\bin\quartus.ini file. This file may have to be created if it does not already exist.
  3. For the Quartus II software version 1.1 and lower, enter the following in a new line:
    Password = {password_a} For the Quartus II software version 2.0 and higher, enter the following in a new line:
    dev_password = {password_a}

password_a is the password for the APEX device. If you have more than one password, separate them using commas (e.g., {password_a, password_b}. Contact Altera® Applications for available device passwords.
