Why do I read a value of 0 for the RF_A parameter after RX PMA initial adaptation on Intel® Stratix® 10 and Intel Agilex® E-Tile transceiver devices?

Environment

  • Intel® Stratix® 10 FPGAs and SoC FPGAs
  • Intel® Agilex™ FPGAs and SoC FPGAs
  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

The default value of the RF_A parameter after power on is 0. The RF_A parameter will have a value of 0 after RX PMA initial adaptation on Intel Stratix 10 and Intel Agilex E-Tile transceiver devices if your transceiver is in internal loopback, or the initial adaptation effort is low.

Running initial adaptation with medium or high effort when in external loopback, or with incoming traffic should allow RF_A values of 160(NRZ) or 130(PAM4) to be read from the E-Tile PHY.

    Resolution

This information will be added to a future revision of the Intel E-Tile Transceiver PHY User Guide.
