Can differential termination, RD OCT be disabled on differential receiver channel for LVDS I/O standard of Intel® Stratix® 10 devices?

Environment

    Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
    LVDS SERDES Intel® FPGA IP
BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

The differential termination, RD OCT is enabled (ON) by default prior to and inclusive of the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 18.0.1. The QSF assignment for the RD OCT setting is ignored in these Intel Quartus Prime Software version. The default differential termination is disabled (OFF) from the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software.
Intel Quartus Prime Software Edition version 18.1 onwards can be enabled using the QSF assignment.

Resolution

To disable the differential termination (RD OCT), follow these steps:

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 18.0.1 and prior version:
  1. Differential termination is automatically enabled by default and cannot be overwritten using the QSF assignment.
  2. Upgrade the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software to version 18.1 and disable the termination by using the QSF assignment.
  3. Contact Intel Support if you require to disable RD OCT but are unable to perform Intel Quartus Prime Software upgrade.

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 18.1 onwards:
  1. Differential termination is disabled by default.
  2. Enable the differential termination by using the QSF assignment.

set_instance_assignment -name INPUT_TERMINATION DIFFERENTIAL -to <signal_name>

  1. No changes are needed on the QSF assignment during the LVDS IP migration because the same default setting will be carried over from the existing Intel® Quartus® Prime Software.

This problem is fixed starting with the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 18.1.
