Why does my Legacy 40/100Gbps Ethernet Mac core have an average IPG of less than 12 sometimes?

Environment

  • Quartus® II Subscription Edition
  • Ethernet
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

Due to a problem in the 40- and 100-Gbps Ethernet MAC and PHY MegaCore Function, you might sometimes encounter average IPGs of less than 12. This problem manifests itself for repeated packets of the exact same size. Randomly sized packets will not exhibit this behavior.

    Resolution

There is no planned fix for this issue. To avoid average IPGs of less than 12, ensure that the transmitted packets vary in size.
