How do I bypass a non-Altera device in a JTAG chain in MAX PLUS II software?

Environment

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description To bypass a non-Altera® device in a JTAG chain and program an Altera device in-system using MAX PLUS® II software, create a device representation of the non-Altera device in the Multi-Device JTAG Chain Setup dialog box by performing the following steps in the Programmer:
  • Choose Multi-Device JTAG Chain Setup (JTAG menu).
  • Choose JTAG Device Attributes.
  • Enter the name of the non-Altera device in the Device Name box.
  • Enter the instruction register length in the Instruction Register Length box(this information is provided by the non-Altera device manufacturer).
  • Enter the boundary scan length in the Boundary Scan Length box (this information is provided by the non-Altera device manufacturer).
  • Ensure that the JTAG ID Code option is not selected.
  • Choose Add.
  • Choose OK to return to the Multi-Device JTAG Chain Setup dialog box.
  • In the Multi-Device Chain Setup dialog box, Select your non-Altera device from the Device Name pull-down menu. Leave the Programming File Name box empty.
  • Choose Add. The non-Altera device will appear in the Device Names box without an associated programming file.
  • Choose OK.

      The non-Altera device will be bypassed when you program the Altera device in-system.

      If you cannot add the non-Altera device to your JTAG chain, your jtaginfo.crf file may be write protected. Either ask your system administrator to give you write access or change the location of your jtaginfo.crf file, as shown below: Add the following line to the System section of your maxplus2.ini file:

      JTAGINFO=//jtaginfo.crf

      For example, add the following line for PCs:

      JTAGINFO=g:\users\alterauser\jtaginfo.crf

      Add the following for workstations:

      JTAGINFO=/home/users/alterauser/jtaginfo.crf

      You should also copy the default jtaginfo.crf file to this location; otherwise, the MAX PLUS II software cannot access the information for other devices in the JTAG chain.
