Jtagserver.exe System Error

Environment

    Quartus® II Subscription Edition

Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® II Web Edition software version 12.0 SP1 for Microsoft Windows, jtagserver.exe and related Altera programming software may fail generating a System or Application error for jtagserver.exe.

Resolution

To workaround this issue follow the steps below:

  1. Download and install the Quartus II Stand-Along Programmer version 12.0 SP1 from the Altera Download Center.
  2. Open a MSDOS command prompt window.
  3. Change directory to  <Quartus II 12.0 SP1 standalone programmer Installation>\qprogrammer\bin64
  4. Run the following command:  jtagserver.exe –install

Once JTAG Server has been installed, other Altera programming software tools from Quartus II Web Edition version will work correctly.

This issue is fixed beginning with the Quartus II software version 12.1.
