Why do I get the error "This program can not be run in DOS mode" when trying to run the <nobr>MAX PLUS II</nobr> software from the command prompt or MS-DOS prompt in Windows 98?

Environment

Description This problem may be due to incorrect settings in the command or DOS prompt properties. To correct this issue, please follow these steps:
    1. Click on the Start button.
    2. Find the Command or MS-DOS Prompt icon.
    3. Right click on the icon and a window will pop up. Click on Properties.
    4. Click on Program, and then click on the button at the bottom of the Advanced window
    5. A new window will pop up. Near the top of this new window, turn off the Prevent MS-DOS-based programs from detecting Windows option.
