Can I use an external USB-to-Parallel Port converter with the ByteBlaster II download cable if my computer does not have a parallel port?

Description

No, you may not use an external USB-to-Parallel Port converter to convert the USB port of your working computer to parallel port in order to use the Altera® parallel download cables such as the ByteBlaster II download cable.

The parallel port download cable only works with the parallel port set to ECP mode. If the USB-to-Parallel Port converter is used, this Parallel Port is defined as a COM port, which is a serial port and it cannot communicate with the Altera parallel port download cables. For more information on available programming hardware, refer to the Download Cables webpage.
