The Intel® Solid State Drive Optimizer (Intel® SSD Optimizer) uses TRIM functionality.

This feature is currently supported on all Windows* based operating systems, with the following limitations or requirements (button may be greyed out, or an error message may be presented):

Note
  • With Intel® Optane™ technology-based Intel® SSDs and memory modules, TRIM and Optimize are not necessary because of Intel® Optane™ technology architecture, so these settings are disabled
  • RAID Support:
    • On Windows 7* operating system only, Optimizer is available in RAID 0 SATA configurations with Intel® RST 11.0 or greater
    • When attempting to run Optimizer, unhealthy RAID 0 configurations (for example, if a disk is offline) results in an error message
    • Optimizer is not supported in other RAID configurations on other operating systems
  • The Optimizer feature:
    • Is not supported on NVMe* devices with Microsoft* NVMe driver or Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) driver
    • Requires an NTFS file system
    • Requires a minimum of 1GB of free space on the drive to run
    • Requires a partition on the drive to run
    • Is not supported if the drive is a storage space member

We recommend installing the latest firmware for optimal tool functionality. We also recommend running the optimizer once a week.

  1. Run the Intel® SSD Toolbox.

  2. Click Intel® SSD Optimizer.
