Many graphic-intensive applications require a minimum amount of video memory. How much video memory does an Intel® 865G chipset-based computer with "integrated graphics" have? The amount of video memory allocated depends on the amount of pre-allocated memory set for your computer plus the amount of Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) requested by the operating system.
- Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT)
DVMT dynamically allocates system memory for use as video memory to ensure maximum 2D/3D graphics performance.
- Operating System
When the memory is no longer required, it is returned to the operating system for use by other applications or computer functions. DVMT allocates memory based on computer needs and is not user-configurable. Memory is allocated up to the maximum limit set by the graphics driver (see Figures 1& 2). The maximum limit of video memory allocated by DVMT is dependent upon the total amount of computer memory installed (see Table 1).
