How to Configure the High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) for Bare Metal Instance

Environment

Intel® Xeon® processors (formerly code named Sapphire Rapids) with high-bandwidth memory (HBM) technology

Description

  • Unable to identify if HBM memory is reported to the OS.
  • Unable to change the HBM configuration to expose HBM as memory to the OS.

Resolution

The HBM and DDR memory can be configured in three memory modes:

  • HBM-only
  • Flat (1LM)
  • Cache (2LM)

Configure the memory mode from the BIOS menu at boot.
