Why Do Some Cores in Intel® Core™ Processor Have Lower Frequencies Than Other Cores ?

Content Type: Maintenance & Performance   |   Article ID: 000094026   |   Last Reviewed: 08/04/2023

Environment

Cinebench Multicore

Description

When running a stress test such as Cinebenc, a few cores run at a low frequency with no power or thermal limits being hit.

Resolution

The clock speed and frequency of the cores will depend on the system and workload. While executing code, Enhanced Intel® SpeedStep Technology and Intel® Speed Shift technology optimize the processor's IA core frequency and voltage based on workload.
