Is it Possible to Create a RAID Volume Using the Booting Drive as the Source Disk in Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) for Windows*?

Content Type: Troubleshooting   |   Article ID: 000093782   |   Last Reviewed: 09/25/2024

Description

Unable to confirm if a RAID volume that includes the operating system (booting) drive can be created while using it as the source after Windows* has been installed, which is necessary to preserve data.

Resolution

While the Intel® VROC Graphical User Interface (GUI) for Windows* provides the option to create a new RAID volume preserving the information from one of its member disks (called source disk), this option is not available for the booting drive. Attempting to use the system disk as the source disk will result in an error preventing this operation. Thus, this option is only available for data drives.

It is necessary to prepare the RAID volume for the operating system before performing its installation in order to ensure data redundancy and boot consistency.
