The Intel® NUC 11 Extreme Kit Appears to Boot Twice after a Power Loss?

Environment

Windows® 10, 64-bit*

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

The NUC 11 Extreme will perform an additional boot cycle after power loss.

Description

After each power failure (unplugging the power cord and then connecting it), all LED lights of NUC will be on for 2 seconds. There will be no picture on the display. Then all LED lights will be off for 1-2 seconds, and then NUC logo will be displayed normally and enter the system (seems like that NUC has been restarted in this process). This problem will not occur when the power cord is left plugged in during power loss.

Resolution

When AC power is completely lost, the NUC will do an EC check on the next boot with what devices are connected to the baseboard. This subroutine is intended to ensure that all devices connected are enumerated.

The behavior is intended due to the way that EC communications being structured to the EEPROM on the baseboard.

This happens regardless of configuration and doesn't affect BIOS settings.
