Error Occurs While Updating to Windows® 10 May 2019 Update (V. 1903) on Some Systems Running Intel® RST Drivers

Problem statement

An issue occurs when users update their systems. Those who currently have Intel® RST driver versions between 15.1.0.1002 and 15.5.2.1053 installed will encounter an update compatibility hold when they update to Windows® 10 May 2019 Feature Update (Windows® 10, version 1903).

Error message reads: Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST): The inbox storage driver iastora.sys doesn’t work on these systems and causes stability problems on Windows*. Check with your software/driver provider for an updated version that runs on this version of Windows.

Root cause

Intel and Microsoft have found incompatibility issues with Intel® RST driver from version 15.1.0.1002 to 15.5.2.1053 and the Windows 10 May 2019 Update.

Recommendation

Users who have Intel® RST driver versions between 15.1.0.1002 and 15.5.2.1053 installed on their systems should update their systems to Intel® RST driver version 15.9.8.1050 and restart the installation process for the May 2019 Update.

Users can install the 15.9.8.1050 generic Intel® driver or refer to their system manufacturers for the drivers.
