Unable to Create a RAID Array Using M.2 NVMe* Drives with Intel® Server Board S2600WF/S2600ST and M20MYP Family

Environment

2x compatible M.2 NVMe* drives

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

Informational content as to why the M.2 drives are not detected in the board BIOS

Description

Looking to create a RAID array using two M.2 NVMe* drives in order to store the OS; however, these disks are not shown in the BIOS of the Intel® Server Board.

Resolution

RAID using M.2 NVMe drives is not supported on Intel® Server Board S2600WF/S2600ST and M20MYP Family.

NVMe RAID using Intel® VROC requires Volume Management Device (VMD) support. The PCIe* bus lanes routed to the on-board M.2 connectors on these Intel Server Boards are routed from the Intel chipset, which does not support VMD.

For more detailed information, refer to the Technical Specifications for the Intel® Server Board and Intel® Server System under the Onboard Storage Subsystem or Embedded RAID support section.
