Supported RAID Migrations for Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise
The RAID level migration feature in Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (Intel® RSTe) provides the ability to convert the contents of a drive into a RAID volume. The RAID level migration feature also supports the ability to migrate from one RAID volume to another.
Note | Single volume per array only, which is dependent on required capacity and implicit array expansion. |
RAID-Ready configuration migration
Intel RSTe can support platforms based on Intel® C600 series chipset configured in RAID-Ready mode.
In a RAID-Ready configuration, you can take their single system drive and turn it into a supported RAID volume by using the Intel RSTe GUI application. This process does not require the reinstallation of the operating system. All applications and data remain intact.
Change Type from | To |
Individual pass-through | 2 to 16 drive RAID 0 |
Individual pass-through | 2 drive RAID 1 |
Individual pass-through | 4 drive RAID 10 |
Individual pass-through | 3 to 6 drive RAID 5 |
A RAID-Ready system refers to a system that is configured to support Intel RSTe. The system BIOS has the appropriate pre-boot drivers and is configured for RAID mode. RAID mode can be either:
- The system is configured to boot off the AHCI controller and it is in RAID mode
- The system is configured to boot off the SCU controller
