Course Description

Learn to use some of the features available in the Quartus® II software for timing closure. Learn to use the physical synthesis optimizations effectively. After this presentation, you should be able to make a decision about when, and how to use these options to optimize your design for best timing performance. With the Quartus II v. 9.0 software, several improvements are available with respect to physical synthesis optimizations. These optimizations can address some timing closure issues and help you close timing on designs where it is hard to close timing using default settings. This training will also explain when it would be good to use physical synthesis optimizations and when it may not be.

You will be able to:

  • Understand the common issues with timing closure
  • Understand the difference between logical synthesis and physical synthesis
  • Understand the physical synthesis optimizations available in the Quartus II software
  • Control the physical synthesis optimizations using the Quartus II GUI
  • Use the physical synthesis optimizations in the Quartus II software to close timing on your design
