Why do I get a segmentation violation when installing the Quartus II software version 13.0?

    Description

    During the installation of the Quartus® II software version 13.0, you may see the following segmentation violation if your system that has an Nvidia graphics card and is running the NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager:

    There has been an error.
    Error running <user path>/QuartusHelpSetup-13.0.0.156.exe --mode unattended --unattendedmodeui minimal --installdir "<installation path>" --product_copy_name "none" --startmenugroup_name "Altera 13.0.0.156" --startmenufolder_name "Quartus II 13.0.0.156" : child killed: segmentation violation
    This application will exit now.
    Resolution You may be able avoid this segmentation violation by setting the Nvidia preferred graphics processor to "High-performance NVIDIA processor" in the Nvidia Control Panel. The option can be set by using the following steps:
    1. The Nvidia Control Panel can be accessed either by right-clicking on your Desktop and selecting it, or by going to the Windows Control Panel and launching the Nvidia Control Panel item
    2. Select Manage 3D settings under 3D Settings on the left in the NVIDIA Control Panel window
    3. Select the Global tab and set the Preferred graphics processor option to High-performance NVIDIA processor

    This problem is scheduled to be fixed in a future release of the Quartus II software.
