Due to a known problem in Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro version 18.1 update 1, you may see errors in the Programmer while configuring an Intel Stratix® 10 MX FPGA with HBM2 IPs in the design. The complete error message is :
Error(18948): Error message received from device: Detected internal error. Contact Intel Applications for further assistance. (Subcode 0x002D, Info 0x00000000, Location 0x00019000)
Error(18950): Device has stopped receiving configuration data
Error(209012): Operation failed
The error may come up due to a PLL calibration failure of the input reference clocks resulting in failure at about 23% during the programming stage.
As a work around add eSRAM IP to the design and provide input reference clocks to the eSRAM when designing with HBM2 on Intel Stratix 10 MX devices.
This problem has been fixed in Intel Quartus Prime Pro software version 19.1.
