MAX+PLUS II Version 8.31 Update Installation Instructions

Warning

All MAX+PLUS II software (including MAX+PLUS® II BASELINE Edition Version 10.2 & Student Edition Version 10.2, and MAX+PLUS II Software Updates versions 10.23 through 8.21) will no longer be available after 3/12/2021. MAX+PLUS II software does not include the latest functional and security updates and will not be supported. All versions are provided as is. Intel recommends that users of MAX+PLUS II software uninstall and discontinue use as soon as possible. Users should upgrade to the latest available software version for their device and follow the technical recommendations to help improve security.

PC Instructions

  1. Make sure that MAX+PLUS® II version 8.3 is installed -- the update files are not compatible with any other MAX+PLUS II version.

  2. Make sure that the MAX+PLUS II software is not running.

  3. Save the 8_31_pc.exe file into your MAX+PLUS II directory (typically c:\maxplus2).

  4. At a DOS or command prompt, change your current directory to your MAX+PLUS II directory, and type the following command:

    8_31_pc Enter

    The WinZip Self-Extractor [8_31_PC.EXE] dialog box appears (see the figure below). By default, the WinZip software extracts the files into the directory c:\maplus2. If your version of MAX+PLUS II software is located in a different directory, type the directory name in the Unzip to Folder field. Choose the Unzip button to unzip the files. The update files replaces the previous version of the files in the MAX+PLUS II system directory.

  5. When the files have finished extracting, choose the Close button to close the WinZip Self-Extractor [8_31_PC.EXE] dialog box.

UNIX Instructions

  1. Make sure that MAX+PLUS II version 8.3 is installed -- the update files are not compatible with any other MAX+PLUS II version.

  2. Make sure that the MAX+PLUS II software is not running.

  3. Save the platform-specific file into the maxplus2/solaris subdirectory for Sun workstations or maxplus2/hp for HP workstations.

  4. At a UNIX prompt, change your current directory to the MAX+PLUS II subdirectory for your platform, and type the following commands:

    uncompress 8_31_solaris.tar.Z Enter
    tar xvf 8_31_solaris.tar Enter

    or

    uncompress 8_31_hp.tar.Z Enter
    tar xvf 8_31_hp.tar Enter

  5. While you are still in the MAX+PLUS II subdirectory for your platform, create four symbolic links by typing the following commands:

    ln -s ../common/t578100.ddf t578100.ddf Enter
    ln -s ../common/t578100.daf t578100.daf Enter
    ln -s ../common/t1730356.ddf t1730356.ddf Enter
    ln -s ../common/t1730356.daf t1730356.daf Enter

  6. Save the 8_31_common.tar.Z file into the maxplus2/common subdirectory.

  7. At a UNIX prompt, change your current directory to the MAX+PLUS II subdirectory for your platform, and type the following commands:

    uncompress 8_31_common.tar.Z Enter
    tar xvf 8_31_common.tar Enter

    The update files replace the previous versions of the files in the appropriate MAX+PLUS II subdirectory.
