XLR8 is the perfect fusion of FPGA-based speed and performance with Arduino platform familiarity and convenience. It is programmable with the Arduino IDE and works with the broad ecosystem of Arduino shields, sensors and accessories.XLR8 integrates an AVR-compatible microcontroller in the on-board Intel�MAX� 10 FPGA that is fully compatible with the Arduino IDE. In addition, XLR8 provides a catalog of pre-programmed hardware Xcelerator Blocks (XBs) for the FPGA that designers can access via their code to accelerate specific functions such as servo control, floating point math, quadrature, and others. Users can also develop their own custom XBs and load them into the FPGA through Alorium Technology's OpenXLR8 flow. The XLR8 platform gives Arduino-based designers a high performance FPGA-based development board that is usable with their existing code and fits the physical footprint of their current solution.XLR8 was created to provide a path to FPGA usage for developers who are more accustomed to writing software for microcontroller based hardware. Beyond providing additional performance for their solutions, it also opens the door to a familiar platform upon which to start learning and leveraging FPGA design. For existing FPGA designers, XLR8 is a gateway to the huge world of Arduino-compatible shields and accessories.
