Add file to current project

Adds the file to the current project if it has not already been added. Alternatively, if there is no current project (that is, a project open in the Intel® Quartus® Prime software), this option creates a new project based on the file you want to open.

If a project is currently open when you click Save on the File menu for an unnamed file, or Save As on the File menu for a named or unnamed file, the option displays as Add file to current project. However, if no project is open, the option displays as Create new project based on this file.

In the Open dialog box on the File menu, the default state for Add file to current project is off. When you click Open, and there is no current project, Add file to current project is unavailable.

If you choose Save on the File menu for an unnamed file, or Save As on the File menu for a named or unnamed file, but there is no current project, you can save the file without creating a new project by turning off Create new project based on this file.

However, if Create new project based on this file is turned on and you click Save, the Intel® Quartus® Prime software asks whether you want to create a new project with this file. Click Yes to open the New Projectwizard, No to save the file without creating a new project, or Cancel to return to the Save As dialog box.
