In-System Sources and Probes Editor (Tools Menu)

You open the In-System Sources and Probes Editor window by clicking Tools > In-System Sources and Probes Editor.

Allows you to read data from and write data to the design.

In-System Sources and Probes Editor Pane:

Allows you to view and edit the contents of an instance.

  • Index— Displays index numbers assigned to identify nodes, determined by how the node is connected to the altsource_probe Intel® FPGA IP.
  • Type— Displays whether a node is source or probe .
  • Alias— Allows you to create an alias for a node or group of nodes for the selected instance in the In-System Sources and Probes Editor. A node alias is useful, for example, when a node name is very long, or truncated, or both.
  • Name— For probe nodes, displays the name assigned to a node that the editor reads. For source nodes, displays an instance name with an index. You can edit both types of node names.
Note: Node names are extracted from your project. You can modify names because they are not critical for compilation. You can create aliases as you choose in the In-System Sources and Probes Editor. Aliases are not extracted from your project.
  • Data— For probe nodes, displays read-only data that has been read from the device. For source nodes, allows you to set the value to write to the device.
  • Event log— Displays the behavior of captured logic events for the selected instance in a graphical, read-only waveform. When you move the cursor in the event log, you can view the value and sample time in the Data column.
