Find/Replace Dialog Boxes (All Other Editors)

You open the Find dialog box by clicking Edit > Find. You open the Replace dialog box by clicking Edit > Replace.

The Find dialog box searches the current file for instances of the specified text.

  • In the Memory Editor, the Find operation searches the entire file, or from the insertion point in the direction specified in the Search list, whether or not lines of text are selected. In the Text Editor, if multiple lines of text are selected, the Find operation begins its search in the selected text and continues to the beginning or end of the file depending on the direction specified in the Search list.
  • In the Text Editor, if multiple lines of text are selected, each time you choose Replace, the command begins its search and replace in the selected text and continues to the beginning or end of the file depending on the direction specified in the Search list.
  • In the RTL Viewer and Technology Map Viewer, the standard Find dialog box is not used. Instead, the Find tab in the Hierarchy pane contains the options you need to complete finding operations.

The Replace dialog box searches from the insertion point in the direction specified in the Search list for specified text in the current file and replaces it with the text in the Replace with box.

The following options are common in both the Find dialog box and Replace dialog box. Exceptions are noted where applicable.
