Gated Clock is Not Feeding at Least a Pre-Defined Number of Clock Ports to Effectively Save Power (Design Assistant Rule)

A design should not contain a gated clock that fans out to fewer than the pre-defined number of clock ports. To effectively reduce power consumption using gated clocks, you should make sure all the gated clocks in a design each fan out to at least the pre-defined number of clock ports. The following image shows an example of a gated clock that feeds more than the pre-defined number of clock ports:

To specify what you have determined to be excessive fan-out for which you want the Design Assistant to report nodes, click Gated Clock Settings to open the dialog box and type the number in the Report all gated clocks that feed less than < n > clock ports box.

Important: Important: This rule can be turned on or off as a global setting for the entire design on the Design Assistant page; or enabled or disabled for nodes, entities, or instances with Rule C103. This rule has a Medium severity level.
