Insert Template Dialog Box

Allows you to insert a Verilog HDL, SystemVerilog, VHDL, AHDL, Quartus II Tcl, Tcl, TimeQuest design constraints, or Megafunction template in a text file at the current insertion point or in place of selected text. Additionally, to ease the specification of timing constraints in the TimeQuest Timing Analyzer, the Quartus II Text Editor supports Synopsys Design Constraints (SDC) templates.

In the Language templates pane, the Quartus II software organizes templates according to their language and purpose. You can make changes to a template in the Preview pane before you insert it into your code; however, you cannot save changes to an Altera-provided template. If you want to save changes, you can save the template as a user template below any language entity. You can specify the directory where you want to save user templates in the page in the Options dialog box.

Displays the names of language-specific templates available for creating design files in the Quartus II Text Editor and organizes them according to their language and purpose. You can expand the tree for a particular language to display the templates available for language elements, statements, constructs, and commands. Clicking a template in the Language templates section displays the selected item in the Preview pane. Each language entity has a User node where you can save changes that you make to Altera-provided templates. You can use the following shortcut commands to create or delete a user template:

New Template— Adds a user template to the User node under the selected level in the language tree. You can double-click the new template to rename it.
Delete— Allows you to delete a user template.

Displays the code for the selected template. If you make changes to an Altera-provided template in the Preview section, you must save your changes as a user template.

Allows you to save changes that you make to an Altera-provided template as a user template and saves the user template under the User node. Each time you save changes to an Altera-provided template, the Save As User Template dialog box appears.
