Intel® SoC SoMs are small, integrated single-board computers with Intel® Arria ®10 or Cyclone® V SoCs at the core. The SoC SoM includes DDR3 memory, flash memory, power management, common interface controllers, and board support package (BSP) software to help you create a fully customized embedded design without starting from scratch.

Intel® SoC SoMs are available in flexible, proprietary, and standards-based (SMARC, Qseven) form factors.

Build vs. Buy

Using a SoM gives you many advantages in designing your products such as shorter time to market, lower costs, reduced risks, and expert support. Click through the boxes to learn more on how you can leverage SoMs to win more business. 

Purchasing a SoM for your design enables you to save 6-12 months of development time, which leads to more profitability. Also with SoMs you can develop application software on the production hardware immediately without needing to port from a development kit.

Buying an SoC SoM lets you isolate complex, high-layer board from the rest of system and reduce total PCB cost. Furthermore, you only have to manage one part number instead of a complete bill of materials (BOM) for processor-FPGA subsystem. Lastly, buying a SoM means shorter development cycle and lower resource needs, which lead to more savings!   

Building your own system comes with many risks. By buying SoC SoM you remove challenges and risks of design verification and board bring up,and you get to design with validated BSP. Additionally you can avoid fine-pitch, high-pin-count BGA package, blind and buried vias, high-speed layout, and routing of processor-FPGA-memory subsystem.

When purchasing SoC SoM from our partner vendors, you also receive the support needed to design your system. The SoM vendors offer free and contract support. They handle a variety of issues such as component obsolescence, memory die shrinks, and process change notification (PCNs).
