RSS Reader Setup Examples

Setting up an RSS reader is easy. You can choose from many feed readers designed to work with your email client or web browser. The following examples show you how to use RSS feed readers to: 

  • Subscribe to updates for a collection of documents
  • Subscribe to updates for a specific document
  • Subscribe to updates using the Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer browsers
  • Subscribe to updates using Microsoft Outlook 

Note that feeds can be embedded in web pages and SharePoint sites, or notifications can be set up when using an email client to access the feed. The Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers can subscribe to RSS feeds natively, while Google Chrome requires the addition of a third-party extension.

Subscribe to updates for a collection of documents in Internet Explorer

This example shows how to receive notifications about new and updated documents related to Intel® Stratix® 10 device using Microsoft Internet Explorer 11.

1. Click the RSS Subscription button at the bottom of the Documentation page.

    

2. In the Devices field, select the check box next to Stratix 10.

    

3. In the Document Type field, do not make any selections.  This sets the feed to all document types.

    Note that you can select more than one device and more than one document type.

4. Copy the RSS Feed URL to the clipboard.

    

5. Paste the URL into a new Internet Explorer tab.

    

6. Click Subscribe to this Feed.

7. Name the feed Stratix 10 Doc Updates.

    

8. Click Subscribe.

9. Access the feed from the Feeds tab of your Favorites.

    

Subscribe to updates for a specific document in Internet Explorer

This example shows how to subscribe to the Intel® Cyclone® 10 GX Device Datasheet using Microsoft Internet Explorer 11.

1. Navigate to the Cyclone 10 GX Device Datasheet.

2. At the top of the document, click the RSS button.

    

If you have a feed reader plugin for your browser, you will see information about the feed URL and how to use it.

If you do not have a feed reader plugin for your browser, you will see an XML document as follows.

    

If you see a document like the above, copy the URL and paste it into your feed reader.

3. Click Subscribe to this Feed.

4. Name the feed Cyclone 10 GX Datasheet Updates.

    

5. Click Subscribe.

6. Access the feed from the Feeds tab of your Favorites.

    

Subscribe to updates for a specific document in Mozilla Firefox

This example shows how to configure Mozilla Firefox 54 to receive notifications about the Cyclone 10 GX Device Datasheet.

1.      Navigate to the Cyclone 10 GX Device Datasheet.

2.      At the top of the document, click the RSS button.

    

3.      Click the Subscribe Now button to add the feed to Live Bookmarks.

    

4.      Click Subscribe.

    

5.      View the updated Cyclone 10 GX Device Datasheet notifications in the Bookmarks Toolbar.

    

Subscribe to updates for a specific document in Google Chrome

This example shows how to configure Google Chrome 59 to receive notifications about the Cyclone 10 GX Device Datasheet using the Feedly RSS service.

1.      Install the RSS Subscription Extension (by Google).

Note that Chrome does not have a default RSS reader.

  

2.      Click Add to Chrome and then Add extension.

  

3.      Navigate to the Cyclone® 10 GX Device Datasheet.

4.      At the top of the document, click the RSS button.

    

5.      Preview the Cyclone 10 GX Device Datasheet notifications. Note that you must choose and configure a third-party RSS reader service to subscribe to a feed.

  

6.      Select Manage from the Subscribe to this feed using drop-down box.

  

7.      Click Add.

  

8.      Type Feedly in the Description field and http://cloud.feedly.com/#subscription/feed/%s in the URL field. Click Save.

  

9.      Click the back arrow to return to the previous page. Feedly is now available as a subscription option.

10.   Click Subscribe Now to add the feed to Feedly. Note that you will be redirected to log on to the Feedly site.

  

11.   Log on to the Feedly site.

  

12.   Click Follow, click Create a Collection, and type Intel FPGA Documentation as the collection name. Click Create.

  

13.   View the updated Intel Cyclone 10 GX Device Datasheet notification feed.

Subscribe to updates for a collection of documents in Microsoft Outlook

This example shows how to configure Microsoft Outlook 2016 to receive notifications about new and updated documents related to Stratix 10 device family.

1.      Click the RSS Subscription button at the bottom of the Documentation page.

    

2.      In the Devices field, select the check box next to Stratix 10.

    

3.      In the Document Type field, do not make any selections. This sets the feed to all document types.

Note that you can select more than one device and more than one document type.

    

4.      Click the Copy Feed URL button to copy the RSS feed URL to the clipboard.

5.      In Outlook, right-click the RSS Feeds folder from your Outlook profile navigation pane and select Add a New RSS Feed.

    

6.      Press Ctrl + v to paste the URL into the New RSS Feed field and click Add.

    

7.      Click Yes to Add the RSS Feed to Outlook.

    

8.      View the new and updated document notifications in the RSS Folder.

    

Forward Outlook RSS notifications to an email address or distribution list

This example shows how to create a rule in Microsoft Outlook 2016 to forward RSS feed notifications to an email address or distribution list.

1.      In Outlook, right-click any Altera® Documentation RSS feed notifications and select Rules > Create Rule.

    

2.      Click Advanced Options to configure a custom rule.

    

3.      Select from RSS Feeds with specified text in the title, click specified text in the bottom text pane, and select Intel FPGA Documentation. Click OK.

    

4.      Click Next to configure where to send the message.

5.      Select forward it to people or public group on the from the Select action pane.

    

6.      Click people or public group in the bottom text pane, type the email address of the person or distribution list, and click OK.

    

7.      Click Next to advance to the Exceptions step. Click Next again.

    

8.      Select Run this rule now on messages already in “Intel FPGA Documentation” to apply the new rule to existing notifications. Click Finish to complete the setup wizard and apply the new rule.
