I’ve always had an interest in making things and even outside of work I’m busy with projects, like rebuilding an old Toyota with my boyfriend. So, when I saw a name like Intel looking for staff, I really wanted to join.

I’ve been working at Intel for one and a half years as a Manufacturing Technician and I love my role. I’ve always had an interest in electronics. So, I did Electronic Engineering as a Level 6 Certificate, before studying a Level 7 Degree online - which I was doing at the same time I joined Intel.

I work in the Remote Operations Centre which means I’m not in the Fab itself and don’t have to suit up. My role is to communicate faults, alarms and other priorities to the technicians inside the Fab. I find the role fascinating and it’s great to learn all the terminology like wafers (silicon discs holding hundreds of micro-processors) and how the layers of production work.

I’ve always had an interest in making things and even outside of work, I’m busy on projects like rebuilding an old Toyota with my boyfriend. So, when I saw a name like Intel looking for staff, I really wanted to join.

When I first started, I found it amazing as well as overwhelming. It was great to be shown around and you had a constant buddy to make sure you’d didn’t feel alone and got to learn the job. It took a bit of getting used to at first, because I was in control of four screens at once. But it soon became so normal that now, with Covid-19, I sometimes find it hard to work with only two at home.  The training was very good too – with a six-week web-based programme.

On an average day you won’t see me on the production floor, but I’m in constant contact with those who are. I work in the department of Lithography, so I help ensure that things run smoothly by communicating problems with production.

When I get to work, we discuss issues with people coming off the previous shift and anything else that will need to be done for the day. Then we get set up to do our daily tasks. Our manager regularly pops down in the afternoon to keep us informed of what’s coming up too. You really feel looked after.

I’d really like to stay here at Intel, and I know they’re very supportive if you want to progress. I just finished my Level 7 around two months ago. But my next goal is to do a Level 8 and then see where that will take me. It’s great that Intel will back me if I do. And it means I can envision a long future here at the company.
