Intel® Unite™ Solution Deployment Overview
You ever join your coworkers in a conference room and have difficulty sharing material on screen? At Intel, we’re deploying an Intel® Unite™ solution to help resolve this problem.
Here’s how it works...
I’ve entered a room that has Intel Unite and I walk up and see that there are simple instructions on the screen. All I need to do is click on the app on my PC, which launches Unite. I type in the 6-digit unit pin which instantly connects me to the display in the room. All I have to do now is click “present screen” and I’m sharing my screen without wires so that everybody else in the meeting can see what I’m presenting.
And what this means is that we no longer have to rely on dongles and adapters like these to get our work done in conference rooms.
In order to help other companies do the same, we’ve documented our best practices for deploying Intel Unite, and we share that information in our white paper.
Intel IT is always looking for ways to be more productive, and effective collaboration is a key factor for business success.
Collaboration at Intel involves many factors, one of which is just the sheer numbers of our conference rooms.
Worldwide, we currently have about 3,500 conference rooms that have flat-panel monitors or projectors, and that number is growing.
But whether you work at a small company or a large company, effective collaboration with your coworkers, vendors, and customers is essential.
We investigated a number of options and we knew that going wireless would simplify and enhance the employee experience.
We also wanted to be able to manage the solution remotely using Intel® Active Management Technology, which is built into all PCs equipped with Intel® vPro™ technology.
Here is a list of components to give you a sense of what’s involved in a typical smart conference room at Intel.
First is a mini PC based on a 4th, 5th, or 6th generation Intel® Core™ vPro™ processor, running Microsoft Windows* 7 or higher. Next, we have the Intel® Unite™ application running on that system.
Then we have a display device like a monitor or projector and the necessary cabling for video, network, and power.
With these basic components in hand, the Intel Unite solution can be easily customized. Our white paper goes into detail for setting up the solution for both small and large conference rooms.
Now, I’m not going to go into all of the information about deployment in this video, but the paper does cover a wealth of information. And it’s broken down into four main sections:
First is preparing for the Intel Unite solution.
Second, building and testing the hub.
Third, deploying the solution.
And fourth, providing support and maintenance.
By following these steps as detailed in our white paper, I’m confident that other IT professionals will be able to deploy Intel Unite technology in their organizations. Our employees have been delighted with Intel Unite.
