May 2 AIDC Summit in LA Highlights New Applications
Using Intel® AI Technology
Diverse applications for smart drones, faster medical diagnoses, new uses for NLP Architect, and hands-on training for creating AI solutions using Intel® architecture – all were showcased at the recent Intel® AIDC Summit in Los Angeles.
Hosted for a select group of enterprise developers, the AIDC Summit series showcases the achievements of leading AI innovations. And, each training event provides hands-on instruction in how to apply the Intel® AI portfolio to create your own ideal hardware/software systems for deep learning applications.
Standout speakers and sessions at the May 2 Summit in Los Angeles included the following:
Smart Aerial Devices from L.A. Drones, a leading aerial cinema and robotic engineering company based in Venice, CA. Working with Intel and Ferrari, L.A. Drones built artificial intelligence into its aerial platforms to detect drivers during live race broadcasts. For another robotic AI project with distiller Absolut, they created drones that pour shots and shake martinis. L.A. Drones’s partnerships and industry involvements span more than 100 projects worldwide. For AIDC, the company showcased its real-time inference for professional racing, delivering real-time inference for potentially race-winning and life-saving applications.
AI-Assisted Medical Imaging from Wipro, an India-based technology company. X-rays, CT scans and other medical images must be segmented to identify regions of interest, and then classified for diagnoses and reporting, a tedious and time-consuming process. At AIDC, Wipro demonstrated how it uses deep learning to develop a medical image segmentation and diagnosis solution running on the Intel® AI platform. Using this technology, radiologists can certify results faster, making them more productive.
Sentiment Analysis from Fox Innovations Labs, a case study in which developers used NLP Architect by the Intel® AI Lab to conduct sentiment analysis. That is, sentence-based versus aspect-based levels of sentiment analysis, aspect being the domain the sentiment refers to. NLP Architect is an open-source Python* library for exploring the state-of-the-art deep learning topologies and techniques for processing and understanding natural language.
Hands-on Training from Intel AI Experts showcasing how to build a deep learning model and deploy it to the edge – demonstrating the data science process using the Intel® hardware and software stack for AI. During the training, attendees learned how to:
- Use the Intel AI portfolio to solve deep learning problems
- Prepare a dataset for model consumption, as well as techniques for preprocessing and data augmentation
- Set decision metrics for choosing a framework and network
- Train a deep learning model using TensorFlow* with Intel optimizations
- Deploy on the CPU, Integrated Graphics and Intel® Neural Compute Stick 2
Join us for a day of Hands-on AI Learning
The invitation list for every Summit consists of data scientists, researchers, developers and management-level IT staff. Attendees should have a basic understanding of AI principles, machine learning and deep learning, Python coding experience, and familiarity with TensorFlow, Caffe* and other frameworks. For anyone desiring a refresher, Intel recommends optional introductory courses covering Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Applied Deep Learning with TensorFlow.
