The Intel® Unite™ solution is use to simplify user connections within conference and collaboration rooms.
With Intel Unite hub software running on an Intel® vPro™ device, these room can now be a user-friendly, dongle-free environment. Allowing users to connect to the in-room screen over the corporate Wi-Fi* network. The individual connections are made by the meeting participants using the 6-digit PIN code that is supplied by the Intel Unite application to the in-room collaboration screen.
Audio/Video Conferencing Plugins
As an Intel Unite solution does not have integrated video capture or audio abilities, the expectation is for cloud Audio/Video (A/V) collaboration companies to provide those services for inside and outside the corporate firewall meeting participants.
The Intel Unite plugin allows for A/V conferencing solutions to integrate with the Intel Unite dongle-free experience. The plugin allows for Intel Unite software to interface with the A/V conferencing solution, thus providing A/V solution to meeting participants outside of the conference room.
The plugin will effectively makes the Intel vPro device a meeting participant, who is able to share its own screen or view content shared by meeting participants located outside of the conferencing room.
The plugin is designed to allow an interface within the Intel Unite hub application, via an API set to the A/V collaboration controls, allowing for functions such as session connect/disconnect, volume control and sharing controls.
Meeting invite handling
The specific setup of the collaboration software will ultimately affect how this is to be handled. The actual connection to the meeting can be automated or manual.
The invite handling should be as easy as possible, such as simply sending a meeting notice to the conference room PC and allowing that PC to connect to the collaboration session as required. This can be an app-based or an email/calendar-based method, such as the plugin for Skype* for Business uses.
Sharing content in a Unite and A/V conferencing session
All meeting participants joining the Intel Unite sharing session using the 6-digit PIN code will be able to share to the conference room using the Intel Unite applications. Only the conference room PC is required to connect to the A/V conferencing solution as a participant. Thus allowing external participants to view the conference room collaboration screen, as well as being able to present into the conference room.
A/V control requirements for plugin
Plugin requirements will include (if applicable) controls for existing room devices, such as:
- Room camera control off/on
- Room microphones mute/unmute
- Room speakers mute/unmute
- Session disconnect
- Auto disconnect from A/V session when last Unite user disconnects
- Audio controls + / - /mute
- Sharing controls mute
Optional A/V control requirements for plugin
Reactively join conference room to an ad hoc A/V conferencing session (reactive action)
- Ability to "answer" in the room from a connected, Unite-enabled client device (this came up with Skype for Business)
- View toast of upcoming meetings scheduled for hub on room display
- Indicate when someone has joined or left the A/V conferencing session (not Unite)
Custom screen layouts for multi-screen rooms
- Toggle different visual layouts on displays
- Camera feed(s) on one display, content sharing on another
- Different camera feeds on different displays, content sharing on another
- Mirrored displays - camera feed(s) + content on each display
Support for hardware button behavior
Ability to work with speaker/mic/hub hardware on meeting room table - support “Answer” and “Hang up” button actions to join and end scheduled meetings with a button press, where the room hub/PC is an invited resource.
An Intel Unite solution allows for a dongle-free environment for conference room collaboration screen sharing, while the A/V collaboration tool handles the screen sharing, audio and video elements.
