Backup and Clone Virtual Machines

Backup a Virtual Machine

On the
Virtual Machine Instances
tab of the
Virtual Machine
page, you will see a list of icons under
Actions
such as
Backup Virtual Disk Image, Clone Virtual Machine, Power Off/Power On
(based on the current status of virtual machine),
Restart, Edit, Delete,
and
View Console
.
  1. To begin backing up the Virtual Machine, click on
    Backup Virtual Disk Image
    icon.
  2. If you select
    Create a VM template using the VM configurations
    checkbox, a new VM template will be created and linked with the uploaded QCOW2 file using the current VM configurations. If this is not required, you can directly click on
    Backup Virtual Disk Image
    button.
  3. A pop-up will be displayed on the screen indicating the progress of the Virtual Disk Image file, for the selected Virtual Machine, being uploaded to ESC repository.
  4. Click on
    Close
    for the uploading to proceed in the background. Once the file is uploaded, you will get a notification regarding the same.

Clone a Virtual Machine

On the
Virtual Machine Instances
tab of the
Virtual Machine
page, you will see a list of icons under
Actions
such as
Backup Virtual Disk Image, Clone Virtual Machine, Power Off/Power On
(based on the current status of virtual machine),
Restart, Edit, Delete,
and
View Console
.
  1. To begin cloning the Virtual Machine, click on
    Clone Virtual Machine
    icon.
  2. Click on
    Clone VM
    button.
  3. A pop-up will be displayed on the screen indicating the progress of the QCOW2 file for the selected Virtual Machine being uploaded to ESC repository.
  4. Click on
    Close
    for the uploading to proceed in the background. Once uploaded, you will get a notification regarding the same.
