How it Works

Edge Insights for Retail
simplifies the development and deployment of hardware-optimized computer vision applications. Data, such as inference results from computer vision modules, is shared across custom user applications using the EdgeX* Foundry as middleware. The main modules utilized are the video analytics service and EdgeX* Foundry, both of which are deployed via service Docker* containers.

Modules and Services

Video Analytics Service

The video analytics service container exposes a set of RESTful interfaces designed to simplify the deployment and use of hardware optimized video analytics pipelines. A video analytics pipeline defines the various video processing and analytics stages from video ingestion to inference results. The current implementation of the service uses GStreamer*, which is a framework for constructing audio/video pipelines composed of multiple processing and transformation steps. The is a software development kit (SDK) for deploying deep learning computer vision inference applications. It lets you use Intel® Vision Accelerator Design Products for hardware accelerated inference.

GStreamer*

is a framework for constructing audio/video pipelines composed of multiple processing and transformation steps.

EdgeX* Foundary

is an open source IoT middleware framework hosted under the Linux* Foundation. As a middleware solution,
EdgeX* Foundary
shares data from IoT devices and applications and makes it easy to distribute data to cloud services and other data centers.

Docker

is a container framework widely used in enterprise environments. It allows applications and their dependencies to be packaged together and run as a self-contained unit.
