Broadcast Video Distribution

Once a piece of content is complete, it must be distributed to the end user. With the multi-screen revolution, there are now many ways in which the consumer can access content.

For example, content that is produced at a particular production or broadcast facility needs to be delivered to multiple Service Providers.  These providers can be cable MSOs, Telcos, Direct Broadcast satellite facilities, terrestrial broadcast facilities or an over the top (OTT) provider.  Each of these facilities can receive content from multiple production facilities or broadcast studios using high quality Primary Distribution transport stream delivery mechanisms. 

The aggregated content is then prepared for delivery to the end user.  The end user may receive the content via a Digital Terrestrial, cable, satellite or telco set top box, or over an Internet connection to their TV or mobile device.  Content can also be streamed over cellular networks or terrestrial mobile broadcasting. The distribution of content to the end user uses a different set of encoding algorithms and modulation methods/transport streams such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MPEG-DASH, QAM, IPTV, VSB, COFDM, etc.

FPGAs play an integral role in providing the encoding and modulation in the distribution segment. We offers three classes of FPGA solutions at various levels of power consumption, speed, and processing power to meet specific customer needs. High-end Intel® Stratix® series capabilites allow the highest performance, mid-range Intel® Arria® series are in the intersection of power and performance, and lower end Intel® Cylcone® and Intel MAX® devices provide low cost and power while maintaining a significant level of performance.
