Intel® Optane™ memory is managed from the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application (or from one of the legacy Intel® Optane™ applications). To disable system acceleration with Intel® Optane™ memory choose the application listed below that is on your system. During this process the Intel® Optane™ memory is being un-paired from the drive/media being accelerated.

Before you continue reading...
  • The instructions listed below assume system acceleration with Intel® Optane™ memory is enabled.
  • If you are having an issue with an specific error code or message showing up, try checking the information in Error Codes and Messages While Using Intel® Optane™ Memory System Acceleration.
  • To determine which application is installed on the system, check under the Windows Start menu.  If none of these are present, using the BIOS to disable system acceleration is the best option.
  • If you are currently encountering an issue with a recurrent pop-up message referencing the ...pinning DLL..., check out the information in How to Resolve Intel® Optane™ Memory Pinning Error: Unable to load DLL 'iaStorAfsServiceApi.dll'.
  • Important: Back up all data before proceeding. Although disabling system acceleration is a straightforward process, backing up the data before start is always recommended in case issues happen during the process.
  • Need more help? If you still have issues or questions related to the Intel® Optane™ memory, contact Intel Customer Support.

Use any of the below options to disable system acceleration with Intel® Optane™ memory:

Option 1: Using the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application

Get this application from the Microsoft* Store
The Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application can be downloaded from the Microsoft* Store. See more information in What Is the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management Application?
  1. Open the application.
  2. Click on the Intel® Optane™ Memory tab on the left.
  3. Click Disable.
  4. Confirm that you want to disable acceleration by clicking the Disable button. The disabling process will start.
  5. Once complete, click Restart.

Option 2: Using the legacy Intel® Optane™ Memory application

Wondering why this is a legacy application?
The Intel® Optane™ Memory application has been replaced by the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application. For more details see End-Of-Life (EOL) Announcement for the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology and Intel® Optane™ Memory Applications.
  1. Open the application.
  2. Click on the Setup tab on the left.
  3. Click Disable. The disabling process will start.
  4. Once complete, click Restart.

Option 3: Using the legacy Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) application

Wondering why this is a legacy application?
The Intel® Rapid Storage Technology application has been replaced by the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application. For more details see End-Of-Life (EOL) Announcement for the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology and Intel® Optane™ Memory Applications.
  1. Open the application.
  2. Acceleration can be disabled on the Status tab or the Intel® Optane™ Memory tab. From the Status tab, click the Disable link.
  3. Confirm that you want to disable acceleration by clicking Yes. The disabling process will start.
  4. Once complete, click Restart.

Option 4: Disabling from BIOS

Another option is to disable the Intel® Optane™ memory from the BIOS (PreOS). The specific way to do this can vary by system, so it is recommended to contact the system platform vendor for the correct process. Generally this capability should be found in the BIOS under the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) section. Select the Intel® Optane™ memory volume and click Reset to non-Optane or Deconcatenate.
