Description

Issues could be:

  • The system does not detect the RAM (random access memory) that is installed.
  • The system does not detect the RAM that is installed or only detects partial memory amounts.
  • The system won’t boot in a dual-channel configuration. No issue when on single-channel configuration.
  • Memory controller not reading memory slots (A1, A2, or B1, B2)
Resolution

Some client boards might have LED errors lights indicating memory issues. Beep codes can also indicate memory issues. Refer to your motherboard documentation for information on the error indications.

Follow the steps below that may help in troubleshoot memory issue:

  1. Load the default setting for the BIOS, or update to the latest BIOS. You may wish to note the current BIOS settings before resetting the BIOS.
  2. Use memory module that is compatible with your processor.
  3. Place the memory module in one channel only. Consult the motherboard vendor on the memory configuration on your motherboard.
  4. Test the motherboard: If you have another working motherboard.
  5. Test with another compatible processor, and check if it boots fine using the same components (memory modules and motherboard).
