The biggest delay in Intel® RAID Expander performance is the RAID card waiting for a hard drive to retrieve information.

How does the 4-port Intel® RAID Controller perform?

With a single x4 connector (4-port Intel® RAID Controller card):

  • You can have three more commands going to three other drives, while waiting for the first drive to come back with the data.

How does the 8-port Intel® RAID Controller card perform?

With dual x4 connectors (8-port Intel® RAID Controller card):

  • You can have seven more commands going to seven other drives, while waiting for the first drive to come back with the data.

When comparing the 4-port Intel® RAID Controller or one 8-port RAID Controller card, which one provides better performance when using an Intel® RAID Expander?

The 8-port setup provides better performance.

Where can I go for additional information?

For Intel® RAID Expander integration, refer to the corresponding hardware guide based on your model.

You can check the technical specifications and compare the different Intel® RAID Expander models.
