Intel Delivers End-to-End Management Building Blocks for More Efficient Enterprise Management
|
Intel recognizes that a major barrier to greater information technology (IT) efficiency has been the lack of a common standards-based interface and infrastructure to manage networked platforms. To address this issue, Intel is developing new cross-platform manageability capabilities for delivery on all Intel processor-based platforms. The Intel® Cross-Platform Manageability Program (Intel® CPMP) extends to all platforms the Digital Office "Embedded IT" vision for delivering management and security features across enterprise platforms. As the first realization of Intel® CPMP, Intel® Active Management Technology is beginning to make these cross-platform management capabilities possible. |
|
Intel® Active Management Technology provides corporate IT organizations with new capabilities for tamper-resistant remote troubleshooting, recovery and inventory management that are accessible in any operating system or power state. Remote troubleshooting and recovery reduces desk-side visits, decreases downtime and minimizes time to repair. Remote asset tracking and non-volatile storage eliminate time-consuming manual inventory methods. With Intel® Active Management Technology, IT organizations can significantly increase their efficiency and focus resources on new business opportunities. Learn more.
Intel AMT can work alongside other Intel platform technologies that improve manageability and security. VT, LT and EFI are technologies that have been previously announced to the public.

In addition to its role in improving server capacity utilization, Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT) also is designed to work in a complementary fashion with Intel AMT to manage the health of the PC environment. In a normally executing environment (i.e., "in band"), VT is the primary player. It allows for options such as running multiple OSs or running a user partition and a management partition which simultaneously share the same hardware. The value of Intel AMT is most evident when the in-band channel is not accessible, either because the host OS has gone down or the host platform is in a lower power state. Intel AMT enables remote management of the PC regardless of the host platform's state, while the VT management partition uses the host processor and supports more elaborate and CPU-intensive, in-band management tasks.

Jul 31, 2006 - Cisco, HP, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and other industry leaders today released the first draft of a specification for creating an industry-standard modeling language across multiple vendor modeling implementations in a service oriented environment. With the majority of vendors investing in model-based implementations for delivering more self-managing, dynamic systems, the ability to interoperate across the various implementations provides a huge benefit to customers with mixed environments.
