Intel & Data Center Utility Incentive Programs
Making new solutions possible with energy-efficient technologies.
As an industry leader in energy-efficient performance, Intel is establishing strategic relationships across the server ecosystem to help spur energy efficiency efforts.
Select utility companies are now offering financial incentive programs for their business customers to support projects that save energy by using energy-efficient performance solutions.
Optimizing energy efficiency not only helps reduce energy costs for program participants, it also benefits the environment and helps these utility companies manage the cost and supply of energy for everyone.
Incentive-based solutions that impact the bottom line
California utility companies Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) are offering incentive programs directed to data center and non-residential computing customers promoting energy-efficient computing equipment and virtualization. Both utilities offer financial incentives to support equipment replacement and technology deployment, including:
- Replacement of existing computing equipment with new, high efficiency servers. PG&E and SDG&E offer rebates to customers who replace existing hardware with more energy-efficient equipment. Customers may be eligible for rebates based on a calculation model that weighs relative performance metrics and energy use (performance per watt).
- Virtualization projects for data centers and networks. Virtualization technology enables multiple applications to run concurrently on a single server, optimizing equipment utilization. Customers may be eligible for incentives based on projected savings using a calculation model, or based on actual field measurements.
PG&E customers have used Intel® technology-based servers to participate in the incentive programs. PG&E customers in northern and central California who are interested in earning financial incentives must apply for the rebate prior to pursuing a project. Qualifying customers can earn a maximum rebate amount of USD 4 million per project site.
SDG&E customers can also earn incentives to help lower ROI on server virtualization projects. SDG&E can help you estimate your energy savings in advance and determine just what your financial incentives from SDG&E might be.
Intel is also working with its customers to help understand how they can benefit by using Intel processor-based technology to help optimize cost savings from these programs.
