Climate Savers Computing Initiative*
Eco-friendly technology starts here. As a leader in innovative solutions that take great leaps beyond the norm, Intel is pioneering energy-efficient technologies and environmentally responsible strategies for a globally shared and sustainable future.
Driving the industry: Climate Savers Computing Initiative*
Historically, computer technology has been designed around energy efficiency—and Intel's microprocessors are a testament to that. However, system component design and power management settings still result in wasted energy increasing both the cost of powering computers and greenhouse gas emissions.
Initially developed by Intel and Google, the Climate Savers Computing Initiative is working to deliver significantly increased PC and server energy efficiency by uniting industry, consumers, government, and conservation organizations.
By 2010, the Initiative's goal is to reduce global computer CO2 emissions by 54 million tons per year, equivalent to the annual output of 11 million cars or 10-20 coal-fired power plants.
Delivering smart solutions for a sustainable future
Technology exists today that can improve a computer's power delivery and reduce the energy consumed when it's in an inactive state. The Climate Savers Computing Initiative focuses on two primary areas: design of more efficient computing systems and the use of advanced power management settings on computing platforms.
"The Climate Savers Computing Initiative, organized by Internet search leader Google and computer chip maker Intel, sets ambitious industry targets to ramp up the energy efficiency of computing gear over the next four years." - Associated Press
