Intel® Wireless Display (Intel® WiDi)
How to use the Intel® WiDi Widget

The Intel® WiDi Widget lets you show separate content on your laptop and HDTV at the same time. You can watch a movie on your TV while checking your e-mail or browsing the web on your laptop.

What you'll need
Requires an Intel® WiDi enabled PC, compatible adapter, and HDTV.

Note 1080p, Blu-ray, or other protected content, requires using a computer with a 2nd generation Intel® Core™ Processor with built-in visuals enabled. Also a compatible adapter and media player, supporting Intel WiDi software and graphics driver must be installed. Consult your manufacturer for the latest drivers.

Before using the Intel® WiDi Widget

  1. Open the Intel® WiDi application.
  2. Connect to your TV adapter.
  3. Click Properties, click the Adapter tab, and select the check box for Automatically connect to this adapter.
  4. Close the WiDi application.
Note This step needs to be performed just once.

Installing Intel WiDi Widget

  1. Download the Intel WiDi Widget to an easily accessible folder.
  2. Navigate to the location of the file and double-click on WiDiWidget.msi, to initiate the software install.
  3. When the licensing information displays, click Accept/OK.
Note If you are not able to install using these directions, right-click on the file, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the User Access Control notification to install.

Using the Intel WiDi Widget

  1. Open the program that you want to place on the TV.
  2. Click Start > All Programs > Intel Corporation > Intel WiDi Widget.

The Intel WiDi Widget starts, but the gray Indication Ring that surrounds the Transfer button shows it is not ready to connect. Wait until the Scan Complete message displays in the system tray and the Indication Ring in the widget turns blue. The blue ring indicates the widget is ready to send.

Note The Intel WiDi application starts as well, but remains minimized in the menu bar.
  3. Have an application open and visible on your laptop screen, not minimized. Click the Transfer button, inside the blue Indication Ring.

Your application moves to the TV in full screen, and the Indication Ring turns green. The program name and icon now display in the expanded Intel WiDi Widget. Example shows: Windows Media Player.

Note If you click the Transfer button and nothing happens, make sure you have an active program visible on your laptop screen, not minimized.
Note For full screen movies, start the movie on your laptop screen, go to full screen, then click the Transfer button. The movie displays on the TV in full screen. Click the Transfer button again to move it back to the main screen to close it, or to control it using play/stop/pause.
  4. Click the Transfer button to return the program to the laptop screen. The Intel Widi connection remains, and you might see your laptop background on the TV.
  5. You can send any open application by opening the Power User menu and clicking on it.

  6. When your application is on the TV, the arrow turns around in the power user menu, indicating that you can bring it back.

  7. Click the minimize button in the upper right to hide it, click the Intel WiDi Widget icon in the menu bar or system tray to bring it back.
