Troubleshooting topic
Limitations on simultaneous use of WiMAX and Wi-Fi (or any of its dependent technologies like Intel® Wireless Display, and Intel® My WiFi Technology)
Background Intel® Centrino® wireless adapter identified below is a single hardware module that combines Wi-Fi and WiMAX technologies. Both technologies share the same radio and only one technology can be in operation at one time. Radio control is assigned to a given technology based on user input or a connection manager intelligently managing both interfaces. Intel® Wireless Display technology uses Intel® My WiFi technology (Intel® MWT) allowing users to wirelessly project laptop content onto TV. Intel® MWT allows simultaneous Internet and Personal Area Network (PAN) connectivity over Wi-Fi.
Cause Intel® Wireless Display technology needs a Wi-Fi connection and hence control over the radio. WiMAX cannot operate during that time. If Intel® Wireless Display / Intel® MWT / Wi-Fi are in use, WiMAX is not available for use.
Similarly, if WiMAX has control over radio (whether user is connected to Internet or not), Intel® Wireless Display / Intel® MWT / Wi-Fi cannot function.
Solution This limitation is by design and there is no workaround for it. User needs to delegate radio control to Wi-Fi or WiMAX using one of the following methods:
- Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiMAX Connection Utility task tray icon.
- Operator or PC-OEM provided Connection Manager application.
Hardware Affected Intel® Wireless Display capable platforms with Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250.
