Adding network security details to your profile

If this is the first time you are connecting to the Wi-Fi network or if your network security settings changed, you need to add the network security details to the profiles.

Typically, the Create WiFi Profile wizard automatically opens and guides you through the configuration process when are connecting to a secure network. You can also access this wizard by selecting the Profiles button in the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility and selecting Add.

From the Create WiFi Profile wizard, complete the following steps:

  1. Enter the following information:

    • Profile Name: This is your name for this network. It can be anything that helps you identify the network. For example: My Home Network.

    • WiFi Network Name (SSID): The best way to find your network name is use your router's configuration tool. See the router's documentation for help on finding the network name.

    • Select operating mode.
You may or may not have this option.
Network (Infrastructure) - Use this option when you need to connect to network and the internet.
Device to Device (Ad Hoc) - Use this option when you need to connect two or more computers. You will not be able to connect to the internet with this option.
See Network Properties in the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software User Guide for more details about the operating modes.

  2. Click Next.
The Security Settings attempts to detect the network settings of this network.

  3. Select the security that matches your network security. Personal Security is set by default and works for most home networks. See Personal Security in the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software User Guide for more details.

  4. Enter password, if required, and click Next.

  5. Click OK to connect to the Wi-Fi network.
