Use the following steps to create a WiFi network profile without security on Microsoft* Windows Vista*.
| Note: |
Connecting to any type of computer network, WiFi included, without implementing security is not a recommended practice. This document is provided for basic configuration purposes only. | |
- Access the Network and Sharing Center using Start » Network » Network and Sharing Center or another method.
- Select Manage wireless networks.
- Click Add.
- Click Manually create a network profile.
| Note |
Many network names, known as SSIDs, have security enabled. Connecting to such networks requires the user know the correct passphrase or preshared key. |
- Enter the network name. This example uses a network named wireless-n.
- Select No authentication (Open) as the Security Type.
- Select Start this connection automatically if you would like to use this network when using WiFi.
- Click Next.
- Select Connect to....

The WiFi profile should now be connected to the AP or broadband WiFi router.

If you return to Manage wireless networks at this point, you will see that wireless-n is now listed.
