The Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility is used to set up, edit and manage network profiles to connect to a network. The features and implementation vary depending on which operating system you are using.
Windows XP* Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software is a separate application that allows you to create and manage wireless profiles. The application replaces Windows Zero Config*, the built-in Wi-Fi manager for Windows XP. Profiles created in one application cannot be shared with the other. The PROSet/Wireless software utility offers an IT admin tool, statistics, adapter settings, diagnostics and a troubleshooting tool. The single sign on (SSO) feature enables both the persistent connection feature and pre-logon connect.
Windows Vista* Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software does not provide the same graphical user interface (GUI) look and feel as Windows XP. Microsoft's Native Wi-Fi* controls basic wireless profile configurations like WEP, WPA-Personal, and WPA2-Personal. The Intel® PROSet/Wireless software allows you to create more advanced profiles using EAP and Cisco CCX*. The software utility also offers an IT admin tool, statistics, diagnostics and a troubleshooting tool.
Windows 7* Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software offers the same features as those supported on Windows Vista.
Intel® PROSet/Wireless Enterprise Software provides the same familiar Intel user interface and tools available for Microsoft Windows XP* with one important difference. All profiles are created using Microsoft's Native Wi-Fi controls on Windows 7. This software utility combines simplified user interface design with advanced IT tools to create and push Wi-Fi profiles, centrally control client software, and remotely enforce corporate network policies. Additional features include the IT administrator toolkit, adapter switching, profile migration tool and reset PROSet.
Windows 8* Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software offers the same features as those supported on Windows Vista and 7.
Intel PROSet/Wireless Enterprise Software provides the same features and functions available on Windows 7.
